Medivet Chorlton
In our latest look at local pet resources we have decided to focus on another vet, namely Medivet Chorlton. Medivet is actually a company with over 350 branches across the UK! They also have 24 veterinary centres that are open 24 hours a day. To give some idea of the size of this vet group, there are actually a number of Medivet branches within a 10 mile radius of this branch as follows:
Medivet Gatley SK8 4DN
Medivet Heaton Chapel SK4 2RQ
Medivet Oldham Chadderton OL9 0BT
Medivet Tyldesley M29 8FJ
Medivet History
Medivet was founded in 1987 and offers a fairly complete range of services, mostly aimed at smaller animals (think pets rather than livestock). They make a point that they operate a partnership model where vets can become equity partners. Medivet vets have a high degree of clinical freedom within their own practice whilst also benefiting from support from the Medivet network of vets. This support allows smaller vets to access specialists from other Medivet practices as well as treatments and diagnostics that they themselves may not be able to provide.
You can tell from the number of branches they have that they have grown quite quickly since 1987. This growth has happened both organically with new vets wanting to be part of the Medivet team, as well as buying some other existing vets. One way in which Medivet supports their network of vets is through their Lab Services. This UKAS accredited lab has the latest equipment and well trained staff offering haematology, biochemistry, endocrinology, microbiology, cytology and histology services to all branches within the Medivet group.

The contact details of Medivet Chorlton are as follows:
Medivet Chorlton
511 Wilbraham Road,
Chorlton-Cum-Hardy
M21 0UB
Tel 01618 813329
The property looks like a large house on a busy main road. Certainly the neighbours seem to be domestic dwellings rather than a parade of shops. They do have their own free car park at the front of the property which customers will be pleased to note.
So what services does the Chorlton branch offer? According to their website they offer the following:
- 15 minute consultations
- ECG
- In house laboratory
- Ultrasound
- 24 Hour Intensive care
- Endoscopy
- Keyhole Surgery
- Vaccinations
- Animal Health Certificates (Needed for pet travel overseas)
- Flea, tick and worming treatments
- Microchipping
- Pet blood supplies
- Dentistry
- Home Visits
- Neutering
- X-Rays
As mentioned before they are able to call upon the rest of the Medivet group for additional services that they themselves don’t provide. It should be noted that the 24 hour intensive care does not mean that the branch is open to the public 24 hours a day. Their listed opening hours are as follows:
Monday 9am – 7pm
Tuesday 9am – 7pm
Wednesday 9am – 7pm
Thursday 9am – 7pm
Friday 9am – 7pm
Saturday 2:30pm – 6pm
Sunday Closed
On their website they state that the nearest 24 hour practice is Vets Now in the Whitefield area of Manchester. I always think it’s worth considering opening hours when considering which vet to register with. Whilst quality of care and value for money are usually top considerations, knowing that you have access to an emergency vet and what the out of hours fees are should be given more consideration than perhaps they are by most pet owners.
Medivet Chorlton Reviews
When deciding which local vet to register with many pet owners are likely to look at existing reviews or ask for a verbal recommendation from another local pet owner. In terms of reviews Medivet Chorlton have a pretty decent 4.4 out of 5 for reviews on Google (at the time of writing this post). I noticed that a large number of the positive reviews simply gave a 5 star rating without actually writing anything. Those reviews that do go into any detail seem to often praise the staff. A few others state that the cost of treatment is comparable with other local vets, you rarely see terms like cheaper though which leads me to believe that they do not offer special budgeting or payment options to spread the cost.
There are a fair number of negative reviews. It’s not unusual to see some negative reviews from a vet, after all we as customers can be very emotional when it comes to our pets. I did notice a couple of things regarding the negative reviews however. I noticed a common thread where people complained about trying to upsell treatments or tests that the customer felt were not needed. I wonder whether branches of Medivet are given certain targets by corporate head office in order to be able to use the Medivet name? The other aspect about the negative reviews that I noticed is that the replies have become much more generic. They tend to simply ask the customer to email them to get a better understanding of the complaint. There is no longer any attempt by Medivet Chorlton to put their side of the story in the reply to the poor review, which I feel is a shame. Additional facts or context can often show things in a different light. Indeed I’ve seen it before where a company will say they had to warn the customer about being rude to members of staff and then when you read other reviews from that reviewer a large number are negative and perhaps that individual is always angry and hard to please.
